The isomerization of n-hexane to produce mono- and di-branched isomers is an important process for octane enhancement gasoline. In a fixed bed reactor, packed with MFI catalyst, there synergy between mixture adsorption equilibrium intra-crystalline diffusion. This best exploited by operating the reactor in transient manner, whereby desired products consisting branched can be recovered from exiting gas during early stages transience. strategy essentially results combination reaction separation single device.
